This is WHAT WE ARE

What we are

By Lynn McIntyre

I’m seeking representation for my YA novel, What We Are, a 61,000-word conversation starter that explores identity and resistance.

Political divisions today eerily echo the fault lines of The Civil War era. What if, all those years ago, the Civil War had ended differently—and secession had snowballed? This is WHAT WE ARE.

My hope is to help young people start conversations—especially at this moment in our country. My enthusiasm for this project, dedication to its promotion, and all its possibilities, is boundless.

Told in dual timelines and multiple points of view, What We Are follows two girls—centuries apart—as they bravely question what they’ve been taught to believe.
